The PTA

Next Meeting

The PTA's next meeting will take place in school at 3.30pm, Wednesday 27th January 2010. A creche is available and all are very welcome.

Who we are and what we do:

The PTA is a small, friendly group of parents whose children attend St Mary's CE (C) First School & Beeches Nursery supported by teachers who attend the meetings together with the Head Teacher. As a parent or guardian of a child at the school, you are automatically a member of the PTA. Grandparents are also encouraged to join in.

As a group of volunteers and a charity, we try our very best to provide events and activities that the whole school community will enjoy. By raising money, we help provide extra benefits and educational items, as well as sometimes boosting the contributions from the local Government - all of which contributes to our children's education. We work very hard to make sure that events run smoothly and that everyone enjoys them, especially the children. All this helps to enhance the education and experience your child has at St Mary's.

Here are some of the things we have either provided or made contributions towards:
* Leavers' and Valentines' Discos
* Christmas Pantomime
* Circus skills day
* Free school dinner-day for all the children
* Laptop for each class
* Year 4 leavers’ gifts
* Interactive whiteboards in all classrooms
* New seating, books and shelves for the library
* Digital cameras
* Musical Instruments
* Skipping Ropes

As for what we have done to raise the funds, the following list gives you a flavour - we aim to put the Fun into Fundraising!

* Non-uniform days
* Bag2school (clothes recycling)
* Pub quiz
* Paper recycling on the school car park
* Selling the school book bags
* Christmas Raffle
* Competitions
* 200 Club monthly draw - see below for more info

How Can I Help - Thinking of Joining?

Want to be part of a great, friendly, voluntary team? A chance to discover what goes on behind the scenes? We are always glad of new thoughts and ideas, not to mention an extra pair of hands. There are various ways you can help, depending on the time you can spare. Just a few hours of your time throughout the school year are all that's needed. You might want to assist with specific fund-raising activities – help out at an event, sell raffle-tickets and so on. Your thoughts, opinions and ideas all count.

New members are always welcome - why not come to a meeting and listen or bring your ideas forward. To find out more then please contact one of the team below via the School Office or at the gate, or by e-mailing office@st-marys-wheatonaston.sch.uk

How Often Do We Meet?

Meetings are held after school, roughly once a month or whenever there is an event coming up, with times alternating between afternoons (at 3.30pm) and evenings (at 6.30pm), to try to fit in with the hectic schedules of parents and teachers.

Details of all future dates will be posted onto the notice board or in the newsletter. A free creche is normally provided for the straight-after-school meetings which is run by either a parent or teacher - healthy nibbles are provided for the children.

All PTA Members are CRB checked and cleared.

The 200 Club:

One of the PTA's regular fund-raising mechanisms is the 200 club. Up to half the money collected is paid out in prize money, and the rest goes to benefiting the children.

How does it work?
For £2 a month, by either cash/cheque or standing order, you are given a number which goes into a monthly draw. If your number is drawn out, you could receive a cheque for either first prize of £30 or 2nd prize of £10. The more members we have the greater the prize monies. Just think, even if you're unlucky enough not to win, you are still benefiting your children as the remainder of the monies goes towards whatever is needed at the school.

How can I join?
If you are interested in joining or would like further information, then please contact Sara Capewell via the school office/gate, or click to download an application/standing order form, which should be returned to the school in an envelope marked 'PTA 200 Club'.
